Great workhacks by Duncan Riley

Browsing through interesting blogs we came across the last blogpost (as a fulltime writer) by Duncan Riley for TechCrunch. In this blogpost, wich was posted on May 5th, he mentiones 7 fantastic workhacks. We just picked out three but do check out the other four in the post by Duncan Riley and many more on the weblog TechCrunch.

Tool 1. Evernote

Duncan mentiones in his blog that Evernote has completely changed the way he deals with paper. Evernote can be best described as a a database service with industrial     strength OCR capabilities. Ehm, what you say? In simple terms that means it offers an alternative digital way to deal with your paper administration. How does it work?
Step 1 is to scan every paper document (e.g. bill) that you would like to save.
Step 2 is using the service, it comes with desktop client and web interface. This way
you always have a local copy and enables you to always access your papers via the
web. How does it work? To every document you can clip data or a link, type a note,
add a photo (with support for webcams) or scan info in. Everything added can be
tagged and indexed, and is searchable via the text within each document.

Tool 2. Plaxo

Plaxo is a tool that helps you combine data from different sources and make it available across multiple computers and even on the iPhone.

Plaxo syncromises data from your calendar, address book and elsewhere between computers. It can also pull data from LinkedIn and some Google services. This way your laptop, desktop and iPhone are always in sync. It just makes life so much easier.

Tool 3. LinkedIn

Many people have already found their way to LinkedIn but as with all social platforms the more, the merrier and most importantly the better it gets. So just to be complete here the short low-down on LinkedIn.

LinkedIn is a social networking platform for business purposes. It basicly has three main functions;
1. Re-connect with your old colleagues and classmates, build and extend your network
2. Power your career by getting noticed. Set up your profile which can be considered as a digital CV and get noticed within your network (via e.g. referrals)
3. Get answers. Your network is full of industry experts willing to share advice.
Duncan Riley states in his blogpost: "I never really appreciated LinkedIn until Plaxo gave me access to the data elsewhere. I use Facebook as well, but I find LinkedIn provides more value".
